On Saturday, September 29th from 1pm to 4pm, Van Cleve Park will come alive with learning during the 2nd Annual Southeast Minneapolis Learning Carnival. People of all ages are invited by the Southeast Minneapolis Council on Learning (SEMCOL) for an afternoon of fun, hands-on learning activities, provided for FREE by your neighbors and community organizations.
Highlights from last year's learning carnivalThe goal of the Southeast Minneapolis Learning Carnival is to reveal the rich variety of learning opportunities available in our community. Everyone who participates will make new connections and discover many possibilities for meaningful learning experiences.
We have a great group of people providing a wide variety of learning activities (if you would like to contribute a learning activity of your own, fill out a registration form and send it in soon).
- Explore the solar system with the Bell Museum's ExploraDome
- Meet animals from the Como Zoo
- Play sports with Gopher athletes and Van Cleve Park staff
- Hone your artistic skill with Articulture, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and the Weisman Art Museum
- Try circuit bending and experimental sound making with Beatrix*JAR
- Learn how to make your own TV show with Minneapolis Television Network
- Launch water balloons from a trebuchet with the Hack Factory
- Examine bones, furs, live insects, and the secrets of soil with the Bell Museum's Touch and See Room
- Get in front of the camera and behind the scenes to create a short film with IFP MN Center for Media Arts
- Taste the flavors of a local fruit and vegetable harvest with Midwest Food Connection
- Learn about pottery and clay with the Northern Clay Center
- Play games and try juggling with Northwest Youth & Family Services
- Make your own paint with Sunny Day Earth Solutions
- Try your hand at weaving with the Textile Center
- Explore a fire engine with the Minneapolis Fire Department
- Learn about Chinese language and culture with the Confucius Institute
- Listen to stories read by the Southeast Library's librarian
- Play music with the West Bank School of Music
- Dance with Pratt Community Education and Community Folk Dance
